Buying guide
The best vodka for caviar is clean, smooth and served very cold, so it refreshes the palate without masking the delicate flavour of the eggs. All four of our premium vodkas are chosen with that in mind, and each has its own character. They come in 70cl bottles and, like all our alcohol, are not for sale to anyone under 18. Beluga Noble is designed to be enjoyed with caviar. It is made from winter wheat grain spirit and pure artesian water, filtered twice through quartz sand and three times through silver-enriched charcoal, then rested for 30 days. Now produced in Montenegro, it is smooth and rich. Sapling, quadruple distilled in London from 100% British wheat, has a clean, creamy flavour, and a tree is planted in the UK for every bottle sold. Black Lion is a rare, much-awarded artisan vodka from the Cotswolds, triple distilled from the whey left over from making cheese with milk from the farm's own sheep. It is crisp and full bodied with hints of edelweiss and a warming afternote, and makes a superb sipping vodka. Nemiroff De Luxe, distilled in western Ukraine with 11 stages of filtration, is crisp and clean with hints of apple, lemon peel and mint, and at £23 is our best value. To serve vodka with caviar, keep the bottle in the freezer; a vodka of around 40% ABV thickens slightly but will not freeze. Pour small measures into chilled glasses and sip between spoonfuls, or drink each in one in the Russian style. Store spare bottles upright, away from heat and light.
Choose a clean, smooth vodka served straight from the freezer. Beluga Noble is designed for caviar, and Sapling's creamy wheat character works beautifully too.
No. A vodka of around 40% ABV will not freeze in a domestic freezer, but it becomes thicker and smoother as it chills.
Either is correct. Sipping lets you taste the vodka, while the traditional Russian way is to drink a small glass in one between mouthfuls of caviar.
No. Beluga Noble shares its name with the fish but is a grain vodka made from winter wheat and artesian water. It was simply created to be drunk with caviar.
Black Lion is crisp and full bodied, with hints of edelweiss, a warming afternote and an exceptionally smooth finish. It is best served sub zero as a sipping vodka.
